More than 6,000 police officers will ensure public order on election day

More than six thousand employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) will ensure public order on the day of the presidential election, held on Sunday. About this, the leadership of the General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) announced at a briefing. The police will ensure the good development of the voting process, but also the prompt intervention at various notifications in the coming days. The legal representatives will also monitor the observance of the protection measures against COVID-19 on election day, reports Moldova 1.

"The police will ensure the security of all persons participating in the elections, provide assistance to electoral bodies and local public authorities in order to keep material goods at electoral councils and bureaus, transport ballots and ensure their integrity, prevent, counter and detect contraventions and crimes in the electoral process," said Sergiu Paiu, head of the IGP.

During the election campaign, police found and documented several violations, including violating COVID-19 infection protection measures, falsifying signatures on lists of intent, as well as cases of slander and insult.

"More than 50 cases have been documented regarding the placement of electoral posters in places other than the pre-established ones, more than 24 cases of violation of measures to prevent and combat COVID-19 infection have been documented. In three cases, the police were notified and documented for the damage to the electoral panels and billboards," said the deputy head of the IGP, Marin Maxian.

IGP representatives also announced that, on election day, employees of the National Car Transport Agency and the police will monitor road transport, in particular, vehicles with a capacity of more than eight seats and regular travel.
