What do people think about wearing masks in open-air public spaces

Wearing a protective mask has become mandatory in open-air public spaces in Chisinau, given that the authorities have found an increasing trend in the rate of infection with the new Coronavirus. The decision was taken by the Extraordinary Public Health Commission, and imposes the obligation to wear a protective mask by all persons present in crowded open-air spaces, fairs, markets, public institutions, terraces, recreational areas and places of pilgrimage. The mask must also be worn at bus stations and train stations, Mesager reports.

Some people argue that it is very important to follow all COVID-19 disease prevention measures, including wearing a face mask in open air public spaces.

"I agree that we have to wear a mask in closed places, yet I do not have an opinion about the importance of wearing a mask in open-air  places, but as long as it is an obligation, I respect it. First to protect me, secondly to protect people around me”; "Many people still don't realise how serious the epidemic is, but I want people to be aware of the decision that has been made and to wear masks," people say.

Even if the fear of infection is great, others have a different opinion.

"I disagree because if we were to get sick anyway, we would get sick, as we touch the same door handle, we breathe, we wear it under our noses and we breathe with our noses, people cough"; "I don't believe in this disease, as others don't do it," people say.

In this context, the authorities announced that they will perform checks in markets, shops, malls, restaurants, gyms, to see how safety rules are kept: thermometry, disinfectants, distance, wearing masks.

We remind that Chisinau municipality is in the list of settlements where the "Red Code" alert level is established, based on the indicators of the level of risk of pandemic virus transmission.
