Rescuers continue to fortify dams to prevent flooding

Over the past 24 hours, employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (IGSU) have been working on several important segments to strengthen protection dams in the south of Moldova.

 Complex activities for the consolidation of a dam were carried out in Ghioltosu locality, Cantemir district, where on July 10 a dam of over 300 m with a height of 3 m was built. The construction is meant to protect 48 households in the locality of flood risk.

Actions to consolidate the dams also happened in Văleni, Colibaşi and Vadul lui Isac localities in Cahul district. In the village of Vadul lui Isac, the specialists had the mission to block the water drainage pipe from the railway embankment, using over 50 bags of clay. In Văleni, the rescuers together with the authorities built a dam on a distance of 20 m to protect 40 ha of sowings.

 The intervention of IGSU employees was also necessary in the village of Colibaşi where a dam was built over a distance of 15 m to protect the gardens near a water drainage canal located in the immediate vicinity of the railway. Here the specialists used 150 bags of clay, managing to prevent the risk.

IGSU employees will continue to monitor the situation in Moldova regarding the water level on the Prut and the Nistru rivers to prevent the risk of floods.
