EU's promised support in the context of the pandemic crisis to reach Moldova this week

The medical devices and equipment promised to the Republic of Moldova by the European Union in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic could arrive in the country this week. This is after in March, the European Commission announced that it will offer 140 million euros to all Eastern Partnership countries, in order to help them face "the most urgent needs". The announcement was made by Prime Minister Ion Chicu after Monday's meeting of the country's top leadership.

"In March, the European Union announced support of 30 million euros for the six Eastern Partnership states. I understood that the first installments will come, for which, of course, we thank them ", said Ion Chicu.

At the same time, the Prime Minister said that the Republic of Moldova agrees with the five directions that were discussed at the Eastern Partnership Summit, held online at the end of last week.

"It's about economic and social development, human rights, climate change, hybrid dangers, propaganda. By the way,  we are exposed to propaganda everywhere. For the next period, the EU assures us of a support of cooperation with these six states ", said the prime minister.

Referring to the budgetary situation in Moldova, Ion Chicu reiterated that it is difficult, but satisfactory in the conditions of the pandemic crisis. However, according to him, the authorities continue their efforts to identify additional sources of financing the budget deficit. Moreover, he pointed that there is no risk of non-payment of pensions and salaries.
