Fewer children are born in Moldova

The number of children born in Moldova is decreasing. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the number of live births in 2018 was 32,606 and is down by 4.3% compared to 2017. Of the number of live-births, 51.7% were boys, reports Moldova 1 TV.

Most of the children born into large families are in rural areas. Mothers from urban areas give birth at an older age compared to those in rural areas.

The greatest number of live births in urban areas is registered in mothers between aged 25-34, and in rural ones between 20-29. The average age of the mother who gives birth to her first child is 25. Mothers from rural area give birth at 25 years old in average.
