Free public transport in Chisinau brings to the municipality daily losses of 1.7 million lei

Losses of 1.7-2 million lei are incurred daily by the Chisinau City Hall, due to free public transport. The general mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said today in an online press conference, that the possibilities of implementing a pilot electronic ticketing project are currently being discussed, reports Moldova 1.

"We warned yesterday and when the decision was made on March 23 that we have losses of 1.7-2 million lei daily, but we understand that we have to do it because public health matters a lot. Today we are going to decide on electronic ticketing, we are going to have a hearing in this regard, "said Ion Ceban.

The mayor also stated that if the two-week period, imposed by the Commission for Exceptional Situations is extended, the basic salaries of the conductors will be kept.

Also, the mayor mentioned that some public transport routes have been reorganized, and in 80 waiting stations, employees of the Interior Ministry check the load of the transport units.

321 trolley buses and 110 buses are available in Chisinau. All the transport units are running on working days and their number decreases on weekends.
