A monument dedicated to the medical workers killed by COVID-19 will appear in Chisinau

Tribute to colleagues who sacrificed their lives for people's health - we are talking about the well-known doctor Teodor Popovici, who came up with a unique initiative. The doctor wants to build a monumental complex dedicated to medical workers in the country, but also around the world, who died of the COVID-19 virus, saving people's lives. It is a premiere that has already started to be brought to life with his own money right near the house where he lives, Moldova 1 reports.

In the courtyard of Teodor Popovici's house, a small part of the materials for the future monumental complex was stored, and on the table were the sketches, designed by him and the project made by specialists.

The complex will bring together several components.

"It contains black granite slabs, where the families of all medical workers will be noted, but at the corner post will be the portrait of Ion Pelivan, the first president of the Country Council, because the street is called Ion Pelivan," says Teodor Popovici.

The monument is to be built near the doctor's house, where a garbage dump is located. According to the project, the landfill will be relocated, which displeases the neighbors.

"I agree, and everyone agrees, but it's not good here." "I still understand, but why raise the garbage above under my window." "The project was made for a crucifixion, it's beautiful, but we are interested in where the dumpsters will be taken," people say.

"The official document is also signed by the head of the urbanism and architecture department. I am preparing the place to make this monumental complex, I have collected the garbage, some cars have to come to take it from here, we will make sidewalks, flower clumps," the doctor mentioned.

Contacted by phone, the praetor of the Buiucani sector, Vadim Brânzaniuc, said that he appreciated the idea of the monumental complex, signed the project and is going to discuss with the people and find solutions for this project to take shape.

Teodor Popovici is a member of the European Academy of Implantology, author of textbooks and numerous patents. For his special merits in the development of medicine, he was recently decorated with the "Nicolae Testemitanu" medal. In the construction of the monument, he will invest 400,000 lei. Also from his own money, the doctor, who is also a member of the Writers' Union, published an autobiographical book about famines, deportations, a fundamental volume about his great countryman, the linguist of European value, Eugeniu Coşeriu, but also several books of satire and humor.
