Defender of the Fatherland Day, marked today

Persons who joined the Soviet Army today marked the Day of the Defender of the Fatherland, celebrated annually on February 23rd. They remembered the war and commemorated the people who died for peace. They laid flowers at the "Eternity" Memorial Complex and hope that the horrors of war will not happen again, reports Moldova 1 TV.

"We commemorate the memory of those who died, heroes in the battles for the defense of the Fatherland. It's a holiday, whether it's official or not. For our country this day remains a special one that we will celebrate many years ahead. " "We came to lay flowers and to congratulate all the soldiers of the country. This is a feast for all men. We are all defenders of the homeland and the family”. "I came to Chisinau yesterday. I really love this Soviet holiday”, said the people who made the army during the Soviet period.

This day is officially marked in several countries of the former Soviet Union. These include the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The holiday dates from 1922 and is dedicated to the soldiers of the Soviet Army.
