The Tokyo Olympics will take place between July 23 and August 8, 2021

The Tokyo Summer Olympics, postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held between July 23 and August 8, 2021, the International Olympic Committee and the Japanese Organizing Committee announced Monday, Radio Moldova News reports.

"The new period of the Olympic Games was preferred to the other variants, including the option to hold competitions in the spring of next year, in order to avoid causing major disruptions in the international sports calendar and to minimize the logistical challenges that organizers may face," said Cristian Frisk.

The Olympics were initially to be organized between July 24 and August 9, 2020 in the Japanese capital, but were postponed for the first time in history due to the continued spread of the new coronavirus.

At the same time, the Paralympic Games will be held between August 24 and September 5, 2021.
