Over 30 traditional Romanian costumes, exhibited at the Museum of Ethnography and Natural History

"A common history, a common heritage: the art of the high-waisted shirt - an element of cultural identity from the Republic of Moldova and Romania", was the theme of an event promoting the common file for the entry of the high-waisted shirt in the prestigious UNESCO list, Moldova 1 reports.

The inauguration of the exhibition with 33 traditional Romanian costumes from both banks of the Prut was a true cultural revelation.

"The exhibition surprises you with its diversity and the energy that each costume contains", declared the director of the "Serghei Lunchevici" Philharmonic, Svetlana Bivol.

The 18 costumes from the collection of the National Museum of Ethnography in Chisinau and another 15 from the heritage of the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest make up a whole.

"What remains as a general impression for any visitor is what unites all these provinces inhabited by Romanians. It is the central message of the exhibition that we want to carry forward in all the projects we carry out together with our colleagues from Chisinau", said Virgil Niţulescu.

"On each costume, the genetic code of the nation is encoded, on the other side we see the experiences, the feelings that the woman had when she embroidered the ornament", said the head of the Heritage Section, Museum of Ethnography, Irina Badiuc.

The fact that the event promoting the joint file "The art of the high-waisted shirt" for inscription in the UNESCO list takes place in Chisinau is symbolic.

"It is a signal that we are sending primarily to European society and the whole world. Without the Republic of Moldova, without the heritage from the Republic of Moldova, Romanian culture and heritage as European culture and heritage is incomplete", said the Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan.

"The high-waisted shirt, through its colours and ornamentation, tells a story, the story of our nation, the story of our roots, the beauty of places and people, and it also tells a truth: that we have the same culture and the same traditions", said Adrian Lupu.

The joint file "The art of the high-waisted shirt" will be examined at the UNESCO Meeting that will take place in Morocco at the beginning of December.
