About 27 million dollars were released by the IMF for the Republic of Moldova

About27 million dollars were unlocked by the International Monetary Fund for the Republic of Moldova, after the progress made by the Chisinau authorities in the field of fiscal governance and anti-corruption was analyzed, Radio Moldova reports.

According to a statement issued by the IMF, this amount is part of a larger package of 800 million dollars that the Republic of Moldova can access during 40 months, if it fulfills several conditions that could strengthen our country's economy such as the fight against corruption and energy efficiency projects.

By including the funds that were released on Wednesday, the total support that the Republic of Moldova has received so far from the IMF amounts to 242 million dollars, reports Agerpres.

According to the International Monetary Fund, the war in Ukraine continues to affect the prospects of the Republic of Moldova, with inflation remaining high against the backdrop of rising food and energy prices.

The IMF recommends that the Chisinau authorities maintain an appropriate policy mix, considering inflationary pressures and budgetary constraints. Focused efforts are also needed to improve spending efficiency and advance energy and state-owned enterprise reforms. Another recommendation aims to protect the independence of the National Bank of Moldova and the adoption, by the end of October, of legislation to strengthen the institutional autonomy of the National Bank of Moldova.
