The death toll from a Russian missile attack on a shopping centre in Kremenchuk has risen to 16 dead and 59 injured, according to information provided by the head of the Ukrainian emergency services, AFP reported on Tuesday, quoted by Agerpres.

"Currently we know of 16 dead and 59 injured, of which 25 are in hospital. The information is being updated," Serghii Kruk announced on Telegram overnight to Tuesday.

The intervention crews mainly focus on "rescue, removal of debris and extinguishing the fire", according to the quoted source. Serghii Kruk added that "all intervention teams are working hard" and the activity "will continue 24/24".

"I want to insist again: do not ignore the air raids!" warned the head of the Ukrainian emergency services.

"Today's Russian attack on a mall in Kremenciuk is one of the most shameless acts of terrorism in the history of Europe. A peaceful city, an ordinary shopping centre with ordinary women, children, civilians," Volodymyr Zelenski said in a video on Telegram. According to him, a thousand people were inside the building, but "many people managed to get out."

According to the Ukrainian air force, the shopping center was hit by Kh-22 anti-ship missiles launched by long-range Tu-22 bombers from the Kursk region located on Russian territory.

"The rocket attack on Kremenchuk hit a crowded place that has nothing to do with hostilities," Vitali Maleţski, the city's mayor, reacted on Facebook.
