Easter under bomb threat. "We hope that Ukraine will win this war"

Many Ukrainians spent Easter in cities along the front line. Despite the war and the destruction, some families gathered at the feast table. There were also those who went to church, but very few. In Kharkov, many Easter services were held in places damaged by Russian projectiles, Moldova 1 reports.

During the war, the Easter holidays were spent by Ukrainians more differently. In Irpin, for example, a family celebrated Easter with friends, in the middle of the ruins and in the basement of a house where there was no water and no electricity. Even so, the Ukrainians prepared the feast table. People say that in these difficult times for Ukraine, they only want peace and tranquillity.

"I feel the warmth of my friends. We didn't know each other before the war. And now we are together, helping and supporting each other as best we can. We are like a family";

“It is a symbol of the resurrection. As we celebrate, we truly realise that we were almost dead and now we are back to life”;

"For me, Easter means the victory of good over evil. This year is even more symbolic. We hope that good will win, that Ukraine will win in this war," said Irpin residents.

In some hard-fought areas, people have been reluctant to go to church for fear of being shot by Russian shells. In the churches of Kyiv, however, some Ukrainians gathered to celebrate Easter.

In cities such as Kramatorsk and Kharkov, which have been heavily bombed lately, Easter has brought a few unexpected hours of silence. In Mariupol, however, the bombs did not stop even on holidays.
