Meeting in Switzerland to develop a plan for the reconstruction of Ukraine

Leaders from dozens of countries, international organizations, financial institutions and the private sector are set to gather in Switzerland on Monday to draw up a "Marshall Plan" to rebuild war-torn Ukraine. The Ukrainian government is set to present, for the first time, its priorities for rebuilding the country after the war with Russia, at a meeting with representatives of about 40 donor states in the Swiss city of Lugano, the German news agency DPA reports.

Hundreds of billions of euros will be needed to finance the reconstruction of the destroyed Ukrainian infrastructure, Agerpres notes.

A statement at the end of the conference will outline the most important principles of the project.

Among those who will be present in Lugano are Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Denis Shmihal, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address participants by video conference in Kyiv.

Over the weekend, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the reconstruction of Ukraine, "in the broadest sense of the word," would be "the largest economic project in Europe" and would lay new foundations for a "safe and modern" Ukraine.

It is estimated that more than 120,000 homes in Ukraine were destroyed during the Russian invasion, creating the need for billions in revenue to restore the country economically and make it a European-facing economy.
