Charles Michel: "I am confident that we will grant the status of candidate to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova"
EU leaders meet in Brussels. Applications for EU membership of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia are on the agenda of the European Council, Moldova 1 TV reports.
EU Council President Charles Michel has said he is confident that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine will gain EU candidate status.
"Good morning everyone, it is a decisive moment for the European Union, it is a geopolitical choice that we are making today and I am confident that we will grant the status of candidate to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. We clearly express the European perspective for Ukraine, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova, "said Charles Michel, President of the EU Council.
We remind you that the European Commission issued its opinion on the applications submitted by these countries on June 17, recommending that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine be offered the status of candidate countries, and that Georgia will fulfill several political conditionalities.
At the same time, the EU leaders will discuss the economic situation at the Brussels summit, and a decision on Croatia's adoption of the euro is expected.
