Maia Sandu in Vilnius: "We want to work together to combat hybrid threats"
The Republic of Moldova appreciates the strong support that Lithuania has offered, over the years, to the Moldovan citizens, to the European aspirations and to the democratic transformation of our country. The statement was made by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu during a press conference in Vilnius with her Lithuanian counterpart, Gitanas Nauseda.
At the same time, the head of state mentioned that our country and Lithuania have good sectoral cooperation in the fields of public security, border management, agriculture, good governance and defence. However, along the way, the president expressed her hope that the two states would work together to combat hybrid threats and misinformation and expand contacts between our local communities.
"We want to work together to combat hybrid threats and misinformation and expand contacts between our local communities. In the Republic of Moldova, Lithuania has financed development projects in the field of good governance and in the field of capacity building of civil society. We are grateful for all the support. We want to continue the exchange of good practices with Lithuania in the field of modernising our security and law enforcement sectors," said Maia Sandu.
Also, the head of state thanked for the personal contribution of President Gitanas Nauseda to obtain the status of EU candidate country of the Republic of Moldova. "Thank you for your personal contribution to this joint decision. The status of candidate country offers the Republic of Moldova the hope that, despite unprecedented challenges, we can transform and modernise our country, and we have the support of the European community.
Maia Sandu congratulated the Lithuanian people on the occasion of the State Day of the Republic of Lithuania and mentioned the close relations that our countries have maintained over the centuries.
"Lithuania has been with the Republic of Moldova for 30 years. Thank you for your solidarity. I wish our countries many more years of good neighbourly relations and successful partnerships, and to succeed in working and growing together as part of Europe," concluded Maia Sandu.
