Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa, after Chisinau Airport returned to state ownership: "We will manage this property professionally"

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Natalia Gavriliţa, assures that the state will professionally manage the activity of the Chisinau International Airport, returned to the state property following a decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal on November 23. Statements in this sense were made by the head of the Government from Chisinau during the meeting of the members of the Cabinet of Ministers, which is currently taking place in Edineţ.

"We have a decision of the Court of Appeal. We see finality in big files, concrete files. These attacks that we see are desperate efforts of those who took advantage of their positions for a long time to harass the people of the Republic of Moldova and tried their best to do everything to make us look weak, to  cause disorder among our citizens. The reality is that we are strong, united, determined to carry out all the reforms we promised to the end and to achieve finality in all cases where there were embezzlements of millions and billions ", declared the prime minister of the country.

The Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa, gave assurances, during the meeting, that the state will ensure an "orderly" transition of the Chisinau International Airport, in the possession of the state.

"I have given all the necessary instructions to the relevant public authorities and I want to assure our partners, the Airport's partners, the airlines, that we will professionally manage this state asset and ensure continuity", concluded Natalia Gavriliţa.

It should be mentioned that the decision regarding the termination of the Chisinau International Airport concession contract was announced on Wednesday, November 23, by the Minister of Justice, Sergiu Litvinenco. According to the official, the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal is final.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Chisinau International Airport, Rodica Rusu, told Radio Moldova that the decision adopted today is an "illegal" one. According to her, in a short time the decision will be unconditionally appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice, as "there are no valid reasons for the termination of the concession contract".

According to the former Minister of Justice Ion Păduraru, quoted by Radio Moldova, after today's decision the state can effectively take over the Chişinău international airport, but this will not prevent the Avia Invest company from appealing to the Supreme Court of Justice.

We remind you that Komaksavia requested the Stockholm Arbitration Court to oblige the Republic of Moldova to continue the execution of the concession contract for the assets under the management of the State Enterprise "Chişinău International Airport" and the related land. In August, the Minister of Justice, Sergiu Litvinenco, announced that the Swedish court rejected this request. The minister claimed that Komaksavia was obliged to pay the Republic of Moldova the sum of 216,678.75 thousand euros as compensation for the expenses incurred in connection with the arbitration procedure.
