EU hands over accession questionnaires to Moldova today

The Republic of Moldova will receive today the questionnaire of the European Commission regarding the application for accession to the European Union (EU). It will be forwarded to Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, in Luxembourg, on the sidelines of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

The completion by the Republic of Moldova of the questionnaire from the European Commission is an important step in the process of European integration of our country, and the application for accession that was sent on March 4 can also be seen from the perspective of a new EU approach to the Eastern Partnership, said the expert from IDIS Viitorul, Ion Tăbârţă, for Radio Moldova.

"The application for membership of the European Union must be viewed from two perspectives. The political decision, which so far has not been about the Eastern Partnership states, as opposed to those in the Western Balkans. So far, the EU has not taken such decisions at the political level. Rather, it was the decision that the Eastern Partnership states did not have the prospect of accession, unlike the Western Balkans. In the context of the war in Ukraine, the EU needs to reconsider, at the level of its political decision, that in the future, the states that want to join the EU, within the Eastern Partnership, may have this perspective ", said the analyst Ion Tăbârţă.

We remind you that a similar questionnaire was sent to Ukraine last week by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who was on a working visit to Kyiv. The European official promised that this process - completing the questionnaire and analyzing it in Brussels will take "weeks, not years", because it was somehow accelerated by the war.
