Siegfried Mureşan at "360 degrees": the Republic of Moldova could start EU accession negotiations next year

The Republic of Moldova could start accession negotiations to the European Union next year, said Siegfried Mureşan, deputy in the European Parliament, co-president of the European Union Parliamentary Association Committee in the program "La 360 de grade" (At 360 degrees) on Radio Moldova. At the same time, the MEP declared that the implementation of reforms and the maintenance of a pro-European governance are essential.

"It is possible to start negotiations next year, but that is not essential, it is possible and desirable. It is essential to implement the reforms and to help each other especially in crisis situations, energy, humanitarian, economic", said Siegfried Mureşan.

The MEP wanted to emphasise that the implementation of the reforms will determine the extent to which the Republic of Moldova will approach and integrate into the EU.

"The good news is that the authorities in Chisinau adopted, at the beginning of August, an action plan, when and how these reforms will be implemented. How we move in the next stages will depend on the implementation of these reforms. The European Commission will have to make a report, after which the accession negotiations can be opened", said Siegfried Mureşan.

At the same time, the MEP let it be understood that the accession negotiations could take some time. But, until then, the Republic of Moldova should integrate into the single European market.

The Romanian MEP reiterated that European integration will ensure the citizens of the Republic of Moldova a free and fair justice, public institutions that will work for them, development and jobs. With reference to the Transnistrian region, Siegfried Muresean specified that the solution to the Transnistrian conflict should be identified until the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.
