The Gavriliţa Government, one year after the investiture: The opinions of experts regarding the achievements and failures of the Cabinet of Ministers

The Gavriliţa government recorded important external successes in the first year of its mandate, including by obtaining the status of a candidate country for the EU, according to analysts in the political and economic field. However, the current crises, the problems in the public sector, which have accumulated over the years and the lack of competent staff, mean that many decisions are implemented late, experts also told Radio Moldova.

The last year was a difficult one because of the crises that overlapped in almost all important areas, respectively this would have been a difficult period for any Government, says the diplomat and economist Igor Munteanu. According to him, the most significant success of the authorities is obtaining the status of a candidate country for EU accession. However, according to him, there are also deficiencies in the current governing act, and these refer in particular to the delayed measures to support economic agents, but also to the lack of transparent communication.

"The energy crisis, the Russian-Ukrainian war of aggression have completely changed the paradigm in which the current government must act, probably unprepared for making quick decisions. The economy, the business environment collide with many problems. The lack of transparency was reported in several areas, in the system of amendments to the law regarding the Prosecutor's Office, the reform of the university system, without the universities being informed. We note the huge opportunity that the Republic of Moldova has in front of it - a candidate country for accession", said Igor Munteanu.

Among the greatest successes of the current government are the external relations, both on the political and economic level and, in particular, in what concerns the financial support obtained and extremely important for our country in the current situation, also considers the economist Alexandru Fala. However, internally, many problems remain unsolved, and communication remains a weak side of this government, the expert claims.

"The government came and they launched a lot of social projects, their response was broadly correct, they increased pensions, they increased salaries, but it is obvious that these measures cannot fully protect the population and, at the same time, it should be mentioned that the government has a very big problem with communication. One of the great successes is obviously the external field, financing, which we obtain in fairly good conditions, including grants, which allow us to go through this period more easily", said the economist Alexandru Fală.

TRM.MD recalls that the first year of the Gavriliţa Government's mandate coincided with the period of post-pandemic economic recovery worldwide, accompanied by the sudden increase in the price of energy resources, starting last fall, which also led to an increase in the price of agri-food products. Later, with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, these trends worsened even more.
