The European Union offers grants worth 100,000 euros to Local Action Groups in the Ungheni and Cahul regions

Two Local Action Groups from the Ungheni and Cahul regions will benefit from grants totaling 100,000 euros, offered by the European Union (EU). These are the Local Action groups "Răzeşii Pyretusului" and "Lunca Prutului de Jos".

"Tangible results have been achieved thanks to the EU4Moldova program: key regions, which have turned the cities of Ungheni and Cahul into more attractive regions for both locals and tourists. Through the contribution of this innovative program, funded by the European Union, the infrastructure of municipalities has been modernized, public services have been improved, the business environment has become more competitive and new jobs have been created - all for the benefit of the people of Ungheni and Cahul. We are confident that the grants awarded today to the Local Action Groups will develop the potential of local authorities, businesses and civil society, which will contribute to the prosperity of both regions and help them become poles of regional growth, "said the European Union Ambassador to Moldova , Jānis Mažeiks.

Each LAG will benefit from non-reimbursable funds of 50 thousand euros, coming with its own contribution of at least 20% of the grant amount. The financial aid will be invested in community development and job creation projects in the villages of the Ungheni and Cahul regions. The two LAGs that will benefit from EU assistance have 27 rural localities, with a total population of over 46,400 inhabitants. Each local action group will launch local project funding competitions that will include member communities.

"In line with its goal of supporting the Cahul and Ungheni regions to become regional growth poles - EU4Moldova Program: Key Regions support their socio-economic development, ensuring that rural areas are part of and benefit equally from the general development process of the regions ", mentioned the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova, Andrea Cuzyova.

The Local Action Groups were selected in the second competition launched in February 2022 by the EU4Moldova: Key Regions Program, funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.

Earlier, in the first call for grants for LAGs in 2020, the EU4Moldova: Key Regions Program provided € 200,000 in assistance to four local action groups. Thus, micro-projects were carried out, due to which at least 27 jobs were generated.
