Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance will be reorganised and renamed

The Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance will be reorganised and renamed the State Inspectorate for Non-Food Surveillance and Consumer Protection. A decision in this regard was approved today by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The changes were necessary to streamline the institution's work. To date, the Agency with a consumer protection profile has carried out controls mainly on the basis of consumer petitions. After reorganisation, all products on the market will be evaluated and verified through monitoring and sampling tools. Thus, the Inspectorate will be oriented towards carrying out market surveillance activities effectively.

At the same time, the institution will have competences in the field of market surveillance regarding non-food products; compliance of services (including tourism); consumer's protection; metrology and prepackaged products; state control of gambling activities; compliance with the licensing conditions according to the field of competence, etc.

The inspectorate will have a limit number of 63 units, the position of director will be exercised, temporarily, by the current head of the Agency.
