Outbreak of COVID-19 at a refugee center in Chisinau: 12 Ukrainian children hospitalized

An outbreak of COVID-19 was registered at a refugee center in the Botanica sector of Chisinau. This was announced by the head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance, during the operative meeting of the municipal services, Boris Gîlcă.

12 Ukrainian children infected with COVID-19 who were accommodated in this center were hospitalized at the Contagious Diseases Hospital. The center where the outbreak was found is not subordinated to the Chisinau City Hall.

"We had an outbreak of COVID-19 in a refugee placement center in the Botanica sector, which is not under our control, but we have hospitalized and are currently hospitalized at the Hospital for Infectious Diseases for Children, 12 children from refugee families." said Boris Gîlcă.

Also, he said that at the Municipal Maternity Hospital no. 2 the number of pregnant patients with covid increased: 9 women were tested with COVID. Moreover, two sections for patients with COVID were activated at the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases for Children.

Boris Gîlcă warned that recently the number of coronavirus cases in Chisinau has increased, but for now Chisinau is in COVID green code.

The official urged the population to be vaccinated with the booster dose.

Although in Chisinau,  the anti-COVID vaccination rate is the highest in the Republic of Moldova - 50%, the immunization rate with booster dose remains low. Only 23% of people vaccinated with the first and second dose received the anti-COVID booster dose.
