"Football in schools" program - the best initiative to participate in the UEFA Awards

The Moldovan Football Federation (FMF) has become one of the five winners of the UEFA Grassroots 2021/22 awards. The football forum triumphed in the category "The best participation initiative" through the social-sports project "Football in schools", fmf.md reports.

By offering specialised football lessons and renovating the surrounding grounds and infrastructure, FMF creates opportunities for children to grow up in a happy and healthy environment, as well as to be more active in school. Thanks to this project, young people are encouraged to use their free time in a useful way and to join the community initiatives, according to uefa.com

Diana Bulgaru, manager, FMF: “Through sports and football in particular, we can achieve a lot. It helps us to offer a healthy lifestyle in our country and has a great impact on the development of children, their qualities in social and psychological life. We want to give everyone the opportunity to play football, not only in the big cities of our small country. We are very proud to be the winners of the UEFA Grassroots Awards and an example for other national football associations."

Alexander Čeferin, UEFA President: "Selecting the winners of the UEFA Grassroots Awards is always a pleasant and inspiring task. It highlights the impressive, inclusive and noteworthy projects of national associations and clubs across the continent, whose influence often swings beyond sports.

Launched in 2019, the project is successfully implemented in over 200 educational institutions in the country.

Corneliu Popovici, Minister of Education, Culture and Research (2019-2020): “I am honoured to share the joy of this project launched on December 9, 2019 by the Moldovan Football Federation and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research at the initiative of FMF President Leonid Oleinicenco. UEFA's outstanding appreciation is a good opportunity to express FMF's support and gratitude for initiating and promoting several social projects that represent important investments in the health and harmonious development of our children, in the rehabilitation and consolidation of sports infrastructure in schools in the districts of the Republic of Moldova”.

"Football in schools" is the main pillar of the strategy of the Moldovan Football Federation (FMF), of which so far benefit over 11,000 students and over 400 teachers, in order to reach 45,000 children by 2024, according to uefa.com.
