Tourism, affected by the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected tourism in Moldova. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, between January and September, only 82 thousand people turned to travel agencies in our country, Moldova 1 reports.

The number is almost 75 percent lower than in the same period last year. Because of this, the losses in the tourism sector are enormous.

In three quarters of the year, the revenues of the specialized agencies were 528 thousand lei, which represents only a quarter of the revenues registered in the same period in 2019.

The data also show that the number of Moldovans who went on holiday abroad has decreased considerably. More precisely, between January and September, through travel agencies, about 50 thousand Moldovans went abroad, 80 percent less than in the same period last year.
