The minibus route managers ask for subsidies

The administrators of the passenger transport companies in the capital demand the revision of the subsidization rate of the urban bus and trolleybus park and the grant of 70 million lei to the minibuses. At the same time, the authorities claim that a decision in this regard will be taken within the Chisinau Municipal Council, reports Moldova 1.

"We did not request a specific figure to approve our tariff, we only signaled the problem that the current tariff cannot cover our expenses. With 70 million a year, we could support with 3 lei the transport of passengers, investing as requested by the mayor and the deputy mayor," said Oleg Alexa, the president of the Employers Association of Car Transport Operators.

The municipal authorities claim that a decision in this regard will be taken by the Chisinau Municipal Council.

"I said, only the Municipal Council will decide, the direction will not decide anything, the direction will only present the information and calculations," said Lilian Copaci, interim chief, Chisinau Public Transport Directorate.

At the same time, the municipal councilors are to establish a temporary solution for carriers. The municipal elected officials believe that the representatives of the City Hall should draw up the city's mobility plan as a matter of urgency.

"If these carriers stop one day, will the city cope with the flow of passengers? If it will deal, then let's generally liquidate them and forget about, so we don't have this topic permanently on the agenda. If it does not cope, then the city council and the municipal council are obliged to take an attitude to what is going to happen,” said Corneliu Pintea, PUN councilor.

"You cannot come everywhere with buses and trolleybuses and it is not necessary everywhere, so we are talking about the urban mobility plan that has to be elaborated by the City Hall. To tell us clearly which routes we need what transport units we need and to see which routes are profitable and which are not profitable,” said Sergiu Tofilat, councilor Forţa Nouă.

700 minibuses run on the streets of Chisinau daily.
