Thousands of families in Moldova suffer from infertility

Thousands of families in Moldova suffer from infertility. In fact, we are champions in this regard. 22 couples of reproductive age out of 100 are diagnosed with the impossibility of having a child. While they have to go through dozens of costly and lengthy investigations, families are also facing a real emotional collapse, which in some cases even leads to divorce, informs Moldova 1.

If 20 years ago it was rare for a 30-year-old woman to come to the doctor and say that she cannot conceive a child, now this is a harsh reality that gynecologists-obstetricians in Moldova face every day. Environmental toxins, the effects of the Chernobyl accident, alcohol and unhealthy food consumption, but also the lack of sex education have given rise to a sterile generation that must regain, literally, the right to have babies.

"Now that a couple wants to have a child, both the woman and the man have a number of problems, men have poor sperm quality, and women can have sexually transmitted diseases that affect the fallopian tubes and they can practically not have children. Our main contingent now are the patients aged 35-36, 30 rarely come patients under 30 ", said Veaceslav Moşin, gynecologist .

The dream of having a child, for Tatiana Scafarschi from Bălţi, meant twenty years of struggle. Even when, after hundreds of investigations, doctors told her she had no chance, the woman never gave up.

"In 2017, when I had the IVF procedure, it was unsuccessful and then I had nine embryos, four of which I transferred and five left. In 2018 I had another IVF procedure and it was successful. On August 29, 2019, I gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby named Versavia. I waited 20 years and I never gave up ", said Tatiana Scafarschi.

Starting with 2017, the Chisinau authorities have also implemented a program through which the state partially finances a single assisted reproduction procedure. That is if the spouses meet certain conditions.

"The file for the couple who must benefit from this procedure is completed at the stage of primary medicine, through the family doctor and the sector gynecologist. The couple must meet one of the main criteria, which  is the lack of fallopian tubes, or tubal impermeability, two laparoscopies in amnesia, endometriosis treatment by diagnosed laparoscopy and treatment of not less than two years, "said Ala Spinei, head of the evaluation committee.

In three years, more than 200 such interventions were offered, only because due to the pandemic, according to doctors, in 80 procedures scheduled for 2020, twice as few files were submitted.
