Over 1,050 complaints filed by the ECtHR against Moldova

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) released its activity report for 2019. According to the document, as of December 31, 2019, 1,056 pending applications were directed against the Republic of Moldova, ranking ninth out of 47 states, reports Radio Moldova.

Of these, 635 applications concerning Moldova were allocated to a judicial body; 301 applications were communicated to the Government; 54 judgments were given. According to the number of applications allocated to a judicial body related to the population of the country, Moldova ranks fifth.

In 14 cases, regarding Moldova, no violation of the Convention was found, the responsibility of the Russian Federation being found in five cases. The amount of damages that the Government of the Republic of Moldova was obliged to pay to the applicants amounts to 508,465 euros, double compared to the previous year.

More than half of the violations found regarding Moldova are for the violation of the right to a fair trial, the protection of property, the inhuman and degrading treatment, the right to freedom and security.
