Snail business in the Republic of Moldova

Instead of sarmale and the traditional pork steak, an Italian living in the Republic of Moldova pampers his holiday guests with snails, which he raises on a plot of land in the locality of Nisporeni. It is about Ivan Ceccaroni, who recently opened a snail farm, and now a part of the production is either sold on the domestic market or exported, Moldova 1 reports.

Ivan Ceccaroni has been working in the field of information technologies in the Republic of Moldova for ten years. As a child, he had a special passion for little creatures. He currently owns three hectares of land, on which 30 tonnes of snails grow and breed. The man claims that snails have more benefits on the human body.

"Our body needs protein, not necessarily of animal origin. An alternative is snail meat, which contains about 90% protein and only 0.5 fat. It is more in demand in Italy, Spain or France, where it is widely used. In the Republic of Moldova, for the time being, this delicacy is less demanded, but we intend to develop this branch, because the dishes prepared from snail meat are extraordinary, if it is prepared well," said the entrepreneur.

Snails do not need special care. They grow on plots of land on which beets, cauliflower, sunflowers and peas are planted. Before reaching the store shelves, snails must be raised for at least a year. Even if they are just starting out, they intend to use snails in the field of beauty as well.

"All skin diseases, the secretion of snails treats it, it also helps the skin not to age and practically their secretion is used in this field to beautify, to moisturize the skin with vitamins. The secretion itself is full of collagen and contains many vitamins. We hope that the Republic of Moldova will become famous for snails. The European market currently requires a lot of snail production and Moldova has the climate and absolutely everything necessary, the land to develop this type of business," mentioned the entrepreneur Anastasia Cojuhari.

The two entrepreneurs claim that they will soon launch the Snails Festival.
