The PPDA calls for the creation of a new parliamentary committee

The PPDA registered with the Parliamentary Secretariat a Draft Decision establishing a new Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry regarding the elucidation of all the circumstances under which the "Laundromat" operation was possible. The announcement was made by the PPDA deputy, Inga Grigoriu, during a press conference. She mentioned that such a commission was needed because it was not known who were the beneficiaries of the Russian Laundromat scheme, and that had made our country monitored by international institutions.

"Unfortunately, the Republic of Moldova came to be placed on the list of states monitored by international institutions, because it admitted that through its judicial and banking system, tens of millions of US dollars, coming from the dark economy of the Russian Federation, were washed. This scheme hasn’t been unveiled until today. The authors of these schemes are not referred to justice. (...) The parliamentary committee of inquiry cannot substitute the actions of the bodies for granting the norms of law and of investigation, they are still obliged to respect and fulfill their tasks," said the MP of the PPDA faction.

Inga Grigoriu urges parliamentarians to back the creation of such a commission, or this would show that they want to fight corruption.

"The current parliamentary majority, if it wants to show that it is genuinely interested in the fight against corruption, is obliged to vote for the creation of this Commission," said Inga Grigoriu.

According to IPN, previously, the community "WatchDog.MD” published a study showing that during the years 2010-2014, about 70 billion US dollars from the Russian banks were washed through the courts and banks of the Republic of Moldova, using illegal court judgments on false debts. The "cleaned up" funds were further transferred to a group of offshore companies with accounts in Western banks.
