The wooden church "Assumption" in Chisinau, a medieval architectural gem

It is a true medieval architectural jewel, which represents the values, culture and traditions of our nation. We are talking about the wooden church built in 1642 from the wood from the oaks of the Moldovan forests in Călăraşi by the monks of the Hârjauca monastery and which is still functional, Moldova 1 reports.

The wooden church "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin" in Chisinau is the oldest in the Republic of Moldova, which still preserves medieval architecture.

"By 1820 the church had already begun to awaken, and the monks asked for the blessing to be dismantled and another church from stone to be erected, which soon after happened. That church was given to the Christians from the village of Hirişeni, who took it and replaced which was rotten with new oak from the forests of Moldova and served in this church for another 100 years," says priest Sergiu Curnic.

The wooden church was in danger of disappearing forever, but God's will made Father Sergiu Curnic discover this holy place.

"When I found it in 2009, the church was all collapsed, it was a pile of wood, along with icons, church books. Basically, I repeated the practice and technique of our forerunners, I took it on the territory of the Village Museum. I restored it, I replaced the old beams with the new ones, I restored all the icons and I highlighted the church," mentions Sergiu Curnic.

Thus, for the third time, three centuries after its founding, the church was rebuilt. During the restoration, 400 old beams were used, which were numbered and arranged each in its place, exactly as it used to be.

The restorers also wanted to preserve the secular icons.

"This icon is a testament to how we found the icons in this church. They were frozen, moldy with moisture. By restoring each icon, we have reached such a quality that the painting is no longer ground, it is very resistant," mentions the priest Sergiu Curnic.

When you step on the threshold of this church, when you look at the icons who have listened to thousands of prayers, you are surrounded by a state of reconciliation and peace, proof that we carry in our souls the values of our ancestors who prayed for almost 400 years in this small wooden church. jewel of our nation.
