Andrei Spinu: "Gazprom" could cut off natural gas supplies starting May 1
Gazprom could cut off gas supplies to Moldova from May 1. In this case, our country could supply gas from the market and electricity from Ukraine, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spinu, in a show on ProTV, quoted by Radio Moldova.
We asked openly what to expect with "Gazprom", insisting on debt settlement, but we can not sign that agreement without an audit. Only one company has applied for the auction, which has not yet qualified, and we have scheduled discussions with several companies until April 20. There is no risk of gas outages for citizens and economic agents, we have options for gas on the market and for electricity we have an offer from Ukraine," said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
Andrei Spinu also stated that he had sent two requests to "Gazprom" in order to have a clarity of the situation starting with May 1, but have not receive any answer. At the same time, the minister claims that "Gazprom" insists on signing that agreement between "Moldovagaz" and "Gazprom" regarding the settlement of the $720 million debts of "Moldovagaz". Andrei Spinu believes that such an agreement can only be discussed when the debt audit is completed.
Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa also claims that on May 1, "Gazprom" could terminate the contract with "Moldovagaz". The statement was made during a show on TV8. According to her, there is a clause in the contract regarding the grounds for terminating the contract.
Natalia Gavriliţa claims that the tenders for conducting the audit at "Moldovagaz" were organised, but due to the war in Ukraine, the companies refused to participate.
