How much did the visits abroad of President Maia Sandu cost?

The international visits made by the head of state, Maia Sandu, in 2021 cost about half a million lei. According to the reports published by the Presidency, the most expensive visits were to New York, Strasbourg and Berlin. Travel to neighboring states, Bucharest and Kiev, cost the least.


Last year, President Maia Sandu went on 14 official trips abroad, for which 499 thousand lei were spent. In the last three months of 2021, the expenses amounted to 39,500 lei. Almost half of this money went to buy plane tickets, namely 18,400 lei.

The most expensive trip was to New York, in September 2021, to the United Nations General Assembly and cost 78,600 lei. The plane tickets for Maia Sandu and her counselor, Cristina Gherasimov, cost 49,600 lei. For three days of accommodation, 29 thousand lei were paid.

In the case of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in April, the costs exceed 71 thousand lei. The plane tickets for the four members of the delegation reached 40,900 lei. Accommodation and other expenses amounted to 30 thousand lei.

The trip to Berlin is the third most expensive trip and cost 66,400 lei. 46,200 lei were paid for the plane tickets alone, the rest went to accommodation and per diem for a delegation of four people.

The cheapest trips are in October to Bucharest and Kiev, which Maia Sandu did not attend, but sent a delegate. It cost only 1,200 lei to travel to Bucharest and 4,300 lei to Kiev.
