Expert: Moldova has the highest price of gasoline in the country's history
In the third half of 2021, the Republic of Moldova registered the highest price for standard 95 gasoline in the country's history. The statement belongs to the economic expert Veceslav Ioniţă, who made his own analysis of fuel prices and claims that this year, in the third semester, the price of a liter of gasoline at the pump rose as never before. The increase was also felt by drivers, reports Moldova 1.
Drivers claim that they now take more money out of their pockets when they fill up the tank but, they say, they have nowhere to go because they need transport.
Economic expert Veaceslav Ionita claims that the record price recorded in the third quarter of this year was determined by a number of factors.
"There are some basic factors, the first factor is related to the fact that our tax rate increases every year and respectively we currently pay 0.50 lei more per liter than last year. The second factor is the exchange rate. Do not forget that we import petroleum products in US dollars but here they are sold in lei, and from the end of 2020 until now we have a depreciation of the currency of about 4%, of the Moldovan leu against the US dollar. That gives us another 0.35 lei per liter," says the expert.
At the same time, the National Agency for Energy Regulation claims that the main cause of the increase in fuel prices is the increase in the price for a barrel of oil on international stock exchanges.
