HoReCa, one of the economic sectors most affected by the pandemic
The HoReCa domain is one of the most affected sectors of the economy due to the restrictions imposed during the pandemic period. Economic activity in this sector fell by 80 percent over the past year. Entrepreneurs had to reduce staff and borrow money. The conclusions are contained in a study conducted by experts within the Advocacy Plan of the National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum. In order to overcome the economic crisis, specialists recommend that policies be adopted to support entrepreneurship, reports Moldova 1.
"They had to borrow money to pay salaries, to pay expenses and, respectively, they got into an even more difficult situation. During the study we found that the economic agents, also from the HoReCa field with regret, did not introduce innovations or apply other activities compared to the traditional ones," mentioned Sergiu Iurcu, expert in the socio-economic field.
The reintroduction of meal vouchers and the provision of state support to entrepreneurs in the process of digitization of services are some of the recommendations made by the authors of the study.
"Another recommendation is to create the production chain for the whole sector, because there is an interdependence of the HoReCa sub sectors. If we boost the activity in one sub sector, it can be beneficial for the others as well," Sergiu Iurcu also said.
"To have a close communication in the respective field and, together with the decision makers, together with the employers’ and trade unions' organizations, to have a solution and to have a change for the better. Every norm that we try to adopt as a restriction norm, as a permissive norm, should also have a consultancy,” said Viorel Bragă, director of the Labor Institute.
At the same time, experts recommend that HoReCa companies implement the principles of the green economy.
