Price to buckwheat is higher and hard to find in shops

Buckwheat is again in high demand both in stores and in markets. The product is hard to find or at twice the price of previous years. In stores, a kilogram of buckwheat can be bought for 50 lei, while at the Central Square in Chisinau, the price reaches up to 30 lei. According to traders, the drought was to blame, but also the pandemic that affected imports. The most dissatisfied are the buyers, who say that they are forced to replace buckwheat with other cheaper products, Moldova 1 TV reports.

Angela Rusu says she hasn't had buckwheat for more than three days. The woman claims that every year, at the end of summer, the stalls are almost empty.

"You cannot find it, because now it is the end of the year, the harvest is over, somewhere on September 15 it will appear. Last year there was a problem with sunflower, oil, this year with buckwheat ", said Angela Rusu, saleswoman.

However, other sellers say they do not lack buckwheat, but prices have risen significantly.

Buyers' opinions are divided. While some say the increases are justified, others say they buy more affordable products.

At the Central Market in Chisinau, the price of a buckwheat package varies between 26 and 30 lei.
