Romania will supply Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with natural gas

Romania is a key state for the success of the European Union's plan to end the continent's dependence on natural gas imports from the Russian Federation, Radio Moldova reports.

At the same time, according to the European Commission's REPowerEU plan, Romania will also supply Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with natural gas, as a transit country for gas flows from other sources.

The European Commission also intends to give the two countries, as well as the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership, access to the EU's common gas procurement platform.

The Commission calls on the Member States to update their contingency plans, increase delivery capacity in reverse flow from west to east until next winter, and conclude solidarity agreements between neighboring countries.

According to profit.ro, the Romanian authorities are discussing since the first part of the year with the neighboring states Hungary and Bulgaria, whose natural gas transmission systems are interconnected with the Romanian national one, the conclusion of intergovernmental agreements on taking solidarity measures in case  gas crisis.
