Railway transport communication between the Republic of Moldova and Romania to improve

The Chisinau-Bucharest train will soon run every day, and four trains a day could go to Iasi. The subject was discussed during the first conference of railway workers from Romania and the Republic of Moldova after the pandemic, held the other day in Bucharest.

According to a press release from the company Calea Ferată a Moldovei (CFM), the railway workers on the two banks of the Prut have agreed to extend the line with a gauge of 1,520 mm from the Socola station to the Iasi station. Also, an additional line with a gauge of 1,520 mm is to be built parallel to the existing line from the Ungheni Prut station to the Socola station (approximately 17.1 km) used both for the transport of goods and for the transport of passengers.

At the same time, in order to optimise the delivery time of the goods and reduce the number of crossings, it was agreed with the private railway operators in Romania the possibility for CFM to transport mixed freight trains, with the grouping of wagons in the train and the separate preparation of the transmission slips. Thus, a single train will transport several wagons for different recipients). This will increase the capacity of receiving and delivering wagons and goods from and to Romania.

At the same time, the parties agreed to increase by 10-15% the traffic of wagons for fuel delivery through the border crossing points between Romania and the Republic of Moldova will increase by 10-15%. Thus, the transported volumes will be increased and the delivery time will be reduced.
