Armed attack on a church in Texas

A man killed two people in a church in White Settlement, Texas, during a live broadcast. The attacker was shot dead by two armed parishioners, reports BBC News online, quoted by digi24.ro.

The images surprised the attacker, as he approached a person, he seemed to tell him something, and then he pulled out his rifle.

White Settlement Chief of Police, J.P. Bevering, said the attacker was killed by two armed members of the congregation.

Jack Cummings, a church representative, told the New York Times that the attacker was suspicious since the beginning and caught the attention of the church's security squad, made up of volunteer parishioners, authorized to carry firearms.

"They saved many lives today because this would have been a massacre," Cummings said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has described the attack as "an evil act of violence."

Texas State has been the scene of several serious armed attacks this year. In August, 22 people died, and 24 were injured in an armed attack in a Walmart store in El Paso. In the same month, an armed individual killed seven and wounded another 20 in Odessa-Midland.
