About 200,000 Russians flee the country and took refuge abroad
About 200,000 Russians have fled the country and taken refuge abroad, according to Sky News, quoted by Moldova 1 TV. Most of those who leave are young people with education. They are fleeing Putin's regime and looking to build their future abroad. Many who leave Russia say they love their country but hate the dictatorial regime.
Despite the sanctions and the depreciation of the currency, the economy is not the main reason why people are leaving. In a poll conducted by the Russian NGO "Takie Dela", 64% of respondents say they leave because they do not feel safe, reports "The Moscow Times". Arrested for protesting against the war, Evgheni Liamin took refuge in Georgia and is involved in organizing humanitarian aid for Ukraine.
"I want to live in a liberal-democratic country, without Putin, with a parliamentary system that has value, not in a dictatorial regime," said a Russian protester.
Young people protesting against the war say people outside the country do not even realize how serious the situation in Russia is. People are arrested just because they want to express their opinion.
"The authorities say that if you support Ukraine in this war, you risk 20 years in prison. When they arrest your friends, when they kill people just because they are against Putin, you don't have to shut up, "said another Russian protester.
Turkey has not closed the airspace, and many Russian citizens are flying to Istanbul. Arina, a 26-year-old girl, decided to leave Russia to feel safe.
"I'm ashamed that I had to delete some conversations before I left, I'm ashamed that I have to hide what I filmed, because it's my right. I don't like that I had to leave with this fear, it should never be like this, you shouldn't be afraid of your country, of your homeland. We are facing an uncertain future ", says Arina.
Russians fleeing the country find it increasingly difficult to access their money because of sanctions, and rents are rising because of the devaluation of the ruble.
