Germany: Strike intended to affect 180 flights

The flight attendants of the German airline Germanwings began a three-day strike at midnight Sunday through Monday, launching an action aimed at affecting 180 flights on the New Year’s Eve, reports DPA, quoted by Agerpres.

Eurowings, a sister company of Lufthansa, regularly updates the number of flights affected by this strike on its website.

Germanwings operates flights for Eurowings, and about 30% of Eurowings' 140 aircraft fleet belongs to Germanwings.

About 15% of Eurowings flights will be affected, a spokeswoman for the company said. "Out of 1,200 scheduled flights during the strike period, over 1,000 will be operated," she mentioned.

Most of the flights affected by the strike are domestic, but some linking to Austria and Switzerland will also be disrupted.

The union has asked the flight attendants on Friday to participate in this strike starting December 30th.

The regulations regarding part-time work were at the center of the latest dispute that led to the initiation of this protest.
