Ukraine expects clear support steps and effective support steps from its partners

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today denounced in a speech to the nation a violation of Ukraine's "sovereignty and territorial integrity" after Moscow recognized the independence of the two separatist "republics" in Donbas, Digi24 and Unian report quoted by Radio Moldova.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky convened a meeting of his national security council and held telephone calls with several world leaders in a bid to shore up support.

"We expect clear support steps and effective support steps from our partners," he declared in a late night televised address, vowing that Kyiv was not afraid of anyone.

"It is very important to see now who is our true friend and partner, and who will continue to scare the Russian Federation with words," he said.

"We are on our own land."

According to the BBC, a convoy of armored military vehicles was seen entering the main city of the separatist region of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the separatist regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in the east of Ukraine. The convoy of vehicles also includes armored vehicles with mortars, but cannot be identified as Russian, as both pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk and the Russian army have the same type of weapons, CNN was quoted by Radio Moldova.

Late on the evening of February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the pro-Russian separatist areas of Lugansk and Donetsk. According to Reuters, Putin has ordered the Russian military to carry out "security operations" in the two republics. The West condemns their recognition as a clear violation of international law and the Minsk agreements and promises sanctions.
