Ukrainian official: The next target of the Russian army is the Republic of Moldova
Mikhail Podoliak, one of the main advisers to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, says Moldova is Russia's next target after Russian General Rustam Minnekaiev said on Friday that Moscow is seeking access to Transnistria through southern Ukraine, writes Digi24.
"Moscow's target in southern Ukraine is access to Transnistria, where she claims the Russians are being oppressed. Obviously, the next target of the army of robbers and rapists is the Republic of Moldova. This proves once again that Ukraine is fighting for Europe's security today, "Mihailo Podoliak, adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, wrote on Twitter.
Mihailo Podoliak's warning is similar to that of President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said that Russia's invasion of his country was just the beginning and that Russia had plans to capture other countries.
Russia is aiming to take full control of the Donbas and southern Ukraine in the second phase of its military operations in Ukraine to build a land corridor to Crimea, Russia's Central Military District Deputy General Rustam Minnekaiev said on Friday. He also said that Russia is considering a corridor to Transnistria, where, according to him, there are "cases of oppression of the Russian-speaking population."
"Since the start of the second phase of the special operation, which began two days ago, one of the objectives of the Russian army is to establish full control over the Donbas and southern Ukraine," General Rustam Minnekaiev was quoted as saying by AFP, Reuters taken over by Agerpres.
Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, declined to comment when asked if Russia had expanded its targets and how Moscow sees the political future of southern Ukraine.
Referring to the statements of the general Rustam Minnekaiev, the Chisinau Executive "considers the statements to be unfounded and unacceptable, contrary to Russia's support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity," notes the Chisinau MFA, which recalled that Moldova is a a neutral country "and called on Moscow to" respect this principle ".
On Friday evening, the relevant ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to Chisinau to send a protest in connection with General Minnekaiev's statements.
