Putin is attacking Ukraine with planes, tanks and military ships. Zelensky declares a state of war
President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Donbas on Thursday morning. Immediately after his announcement, several explosions began to be heard in the Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Kharkov or Odessa, as well as in the east of the country. Russia's military operation is complex, with artillery, air and sea attacks.
"Dear Ukrainian citizens, this morning President Putin announced a special military operation in Donbas. Russia has hit our military infrastructure and our border guards. Explosions have been heard in many Ukrainian cities. We are introducing martial law throughout our country. One minute ago, I had a conversation with President Biden. The United States has already begun the international effort. You should stay calm today. Stay home if you can. We are working. The army is working. The entire defence and security sector is working. Don't panic. We are strong. We are ready for anything. We will win because we are Ukraine," said the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelensky.
Ukraine, no reaction to Russia
UPDATE FEBRUARY 24 6:35 Ukraine's military-political leadership is paralyzed, troops are completely demoralised. They didn't even declare war. "The war has been going on for an hour and a half and the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already been completely defeated," sources in the Kiev media said.
Military sources say the entire Ukrainian fleet has been destroyed.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday called for a last-minute call for Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war "in the name of humanity" after the Russian leader announced a military operation in eastern Ukraine, Reuters reports.
"President Putin, on behalf of humanity, bring your troops back to Russia," Guterres said after an emergency Security Council meeting on Ukraine.

Zelensky said Russia has nearly 200,000 troops and thousands of fighting vehicles on Ukraine's borders.
Russia is launching a military operation just days after recognizing the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics in eastern Ukraine. The separatist regions - which control large areas of the Donbas region - later called on Moscow for military support.
In his announcement, Putin said the goal of the military operation was to defend those people who had been subjected to "genocide by the Kiev regime" for eight years. It was an apparent reference to the mass street protests in Ukraine that ousted pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014. Putin also said that Moscow would seek "demilitarisation and denazification" of Ukraine.
