Russia wants to develop the Eurasian partnership to meet international challenges
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday called for a strategy to develop a "major Eurasian partnership" to meet new international challenges, such as Western actions against countries with "independent policies," according to digi24.ro.
"The time has come to develop a comprehensive development strategy for a major Eurasian association that must reflect the key challenges we face and take the necessary steps for new agreements complementary to World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules," Putin said in his video address to the Eurasian Economic Forum in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
This forum, which preceded Friday's Eurasian Economic Union (EUE) summit, brings together Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
For his part, Kazakh President Kasim-Yomart Tokaiev, who was present at the forum, praised Putin's proposed mega-project called "Greater Eurasia" as a possible stepping stone region of the former Soviet republics.
"Sooner or later, we will implement it. And, as Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) said, it is possible that other countries will be able to join this project," Tokaiev said.
