COVID-19 study: Omicron multiplies 70 times faster than Delta
The Omicron variant multiplies 70 times faster in the bronchial tissue than the Delta, but causes lighter symptoms, according to a study conducted in Hong Kong. As this strain tends to become dominant in the coming months, most countries are introducing mandatory vaccination and tougher restrictions, Moldova 1 TV reports.
Starting with Monday, all citizens regardless of nationality who will enter Romania will have to fill in a digital location form. Whoever does not complete it risks a fine of two or three thousand RONI. The document must be completed 24 hours before entering the country or within the first 24 hours after crossing the border.
Greece will ask all visitors who want to enter the country to present a negative PCR test performed within 48 hours upon arrival. A similar measure is imposed by Poland. At the same time, the Warsaw authorities decided to close the schools and started the campaign to vaccinate children aged between 5 and 12.
"Children stay in groups in school and can easily become infected and then infect their parents and grandparents";
"We get vaccinated to get back to a normal life where the kids go to school."
Vaccination of children started in Lithuania, Spain, France, Germany, and other countries. Israel will conduct tests to see if the 4th dose raises antibody levels. The experiment will be attended by 100 people.
At the same time, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control warns that vaccination alone will not be enough for Omicron and recommends a protective mask, teleworking and avoiding crowded places.
Cases of coronavirus infection are increasing day by day in Europe. On Wednesday, Britain reported the highest number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic - more than 78,000 new illnesses, while France reached more than 65,000 daily cases, the highest figure in 13 months.
