Ukrainian President on Bucha and Irpin massacre: It is genocide

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the crimes carried out by the Russian invaders in Bucha and Irpin a genocide, saying the Russian Federation's intention was to exterminate the Ukrainian people because they did not want to obey the Kremlin's will, CNN reports.

"This is genocide!" The Ukrainian president said on Sunday after images of the Russian atrocities in the city of Bukha in the Kyiv region appeared.

"The elimination of an entire nation and its people. We are citizens of Ukraine. We have more than 100 nationalities. It is about destroying and exterminating them," Zelenski said, referring to the crimes committed by the Russians.

"Mothers of Russian soldiers should look at the pictures. Look at the bastards you raised. Criminals, robbers and butchers! All this is happening in 21st century Europe,” Zelenski concluded.

Hundreds of civilians were killed during the Russian military occupation of Bucha and Irpin. Victims of war crimes committed by the Russian army in the region have been buried in mass graves, while some bodies have been lying on the streets for several days.

On Monday, April 4, a day of national mourning is declared in the Republic of Moldova in memory of those who died as a result of the war in Ukraine.
