Igor Dodon's lawyers claim that his client's file is a political one. The Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office "does not comment on messages with a provocative tone"

Igor Dodon's lawyers declared, during a press conference, that the file on the name of the former president is a political one, and the investigations are biassed. The defenders announced that they will appeal to national and international organisations, specialised in the protection of human rights, to whom they will provide evidence of violations in what they consider an unfair process. Contacted by Moldova 1, the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office mentioned that it reserves the right not to comment on messages with a provocative tone that are dispersed in the public space.

Igor Dodon's lawyers claim that information from their client's file is selectively released in the public space. They also report public attacks on the former head of state and his mother.

"The files against the former president of the country are political files. We have noticed that distorted information is provided in the press that does not question the possibility of at least considering that the evidence could be rigged, that the recordings in the headquarters of the Democratic Party could be staged, this hypothesis is generally missing from all stations", claims lawyer Nicolae Posturusu.

The defenders also state that they also found evidence of the political nature of the accusations against Igor Dodon in the recent leaks of information from the Telegram account of an official from the Presidency. They announced that they are documenting every violation and will present the evidence including to international organisations.

"Mr. Igor Dodon is kept under arrest, not for legal purposes. The purpose of keeping you under arrest is to record and control you. It already bothers us that in certain ways Mr. Igor Dodon is already considered guilty while his guilt has not yet been established", added lawyer Petru Balan.

Contacted by Moldova 1, the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office mentioned that it reserves the right not to comment on messages with a provocative tone that are dispersed in the public space.

TRM.MD recalls that the former head of state is accused of illicit enrichment, passive corruption, accepting the financing of the political party by a criminal organisation and treason. On May 24, 2022, Igor Dodon was detained and incarcerated in the temporary detention cell of the Chisinau Police Department. Together with him, his brother-in-law, Petru Merineanu, Galina Dodon's brother, was detained. Currently, the former president is under house arrest.
