The General Prosecutor's Office and the European Public Prosecutor's Office will sign a collaboration agreement

A working agreement between the General Prosecutor's Office and the European Prosecutor's Office is to be signed in Chisinau by the European Chief Prosecutor, Laura Codruţa Kövesi, and representatives of the prosecutor's office, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova announced, Radio Moldova reports.

According to the quoted source, Laura Codruţa Kövesi arrived in our country yesterday, but all the events will take place starting today.

The expert of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, Mihai Mogîldea says that this visit is very important for the Republic of Moldova, because once it receives the status of candidate for accession to the European Union, our country must work according to international practices so that justice reform is carried out successfully.

"The Republic of Moldova will become a beneficiary of pre-accession funds from the European Union, and in the process of monitoring the expenditure of these funds will be directly involved the institution led by Mrs. Kövesi - European Prosecutor's Office, whose responsibilities are to supervise and monitor public spending of the citizens of the European Union. In other words, Mrs. Kövesi's visit comes to answer some important problems, which it faces or which are relevant for the Republic of Moldova ", said Mihai Mogîldea.

The European Chief Prosecutor will meet with several officials from our country, including the Head of State Maia Sandu, the President of the Parliament Igor Grosu and the Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa. Laura Codruţa Kövesi also has planned meetings with the Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco, as well as with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu. The official will also meet with representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office, anti-corruption prosecutors, as well as with representatives of civil society. This afternoon, Laura Codruţa Kövesi will hold, together with Sergiu Litvinenco, a press conference.

We mention that Laura Codruţa Kövesi holds, since September 2019, the position of Chief Prosecutor of the European Prosecutor's Office, for a period of 7 years. Previously, she held the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate.
