War in Ukraine: Bombings in Kyiv, Zhitomir and Sumi

Russia has resumed bombing of the Ukrainian capital. The blasts happened in Kyiv, in the Zhitomir region and Sumi and there are victims, according to the Ukrainian media. The attacks have continued, although a new round of talks between Ukraine and Russia is set to resume on Monday. Discussions are taking place by video conference, Moldova 1 TV reports.

The bombs fell on a block of flats in Kyiv, which housed 64 people, killed two people and injured three others. Ukrainian officials have assured that the remaining population in the capital is provided with the necessary supplies, and the city is prepared for a possible blockade of Russian forces.

"The city continues to operate under martial law and is preparing for defense. In order to strengthen the security of the capital to operate in case of emergency, we organized a meeting of the Kyiv City Council. We create the necessary supply of goods and products. We are raising funds for the purchase of defense equipment, "said Vitali Kliciko, the mayor of Kyiv.

Four people were injured in a rocket attack and seven buildings were destroyed in the Zhitomir region. At least three people have been killed in the town of Ohtirka in the Sumi region following last night's bombings. The information was confirmed by local authorities in the region.

"A private neighborhood in the area was destroyed. Residential buildings and the city center were hit. We want the fighting to end, we are still under attack and the saddest people are suffering the worst”, said Pavel Kuzmenko, the mayor of Ostirkara.

On Monday morning, Russian military forces also attacked the Antonov aircraft factory, which is located on Sviatoshyn airfield, about 10 km from the center of Kyiv. The city administration says emergency services have intervened to put out the blaze.

At the same time, images appeared on social media from a town near Nikolaev, where the bombs destroyed several houses. Local authorities say there are people under the rubble. Chernihiv National Polytechnic University was also attacked, say representatives of the region.

Several administrative buildings in the Zhitomir region were destroyed by a rocket attack. According to Unian, seven buildings were damaged and at least four people were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a new video. The Kyiv leader noted that if the NATO Alliance does not establish a no-fly zone over his country, Russia could extend areas of attack to other states.

"Last year, I clearly warned NATO leaders that if there were no harsh sanctions against Russia, a war would break out. I was right. Now I repeat, if you do not close our skies, it is only a matter of time before Russian missiles land on your territory. On NATO territory. On the homes of NATO citizens",  said Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is calling for an urgent solution to prevent the worst-case scenario for civilians left in Mariupol. According to Médecins Sans Frontières, the city is on the brink of a humanitarian disaster. The people who have remained in the region have not had water for a week, there is  lack of food and medicines.
